"getting a trick added really should be simple"
then you refer to the "pre-phase" where the trick is not added publicly, but privately by the surfer, and the surfer has not been required to communicate with any mod or anyone about anything?
yeah, that's what you say, and then that first completion run contained within that replay that might be submitted automatically is also gonna be registered as the first completion if the trick gets added publicly, despite that this completion lays before the public release of the trick, right.
so the list of completors or completions on public tricks are never gonna be empty ish
I guess it all works fine then 👍️ 👍️ 👍️ but as time goes, and if you see crazy tricks pop up on youtube (as in 2010) that have not been added, neither privately or publicly, but just have a demo recorded, then something is wrong perhaps, unless you can extract the run in question from the demo so it can be used as first registered completion.
ofc. the creator behind the trick might just not wish his/her trick to get added, but the problem is more likely to lay in the issue that it is weird to have one's trick added just to see someone else get the first official first completion (and there is more to add about this bad incentive structure to get one's difficult tricks added when the first registered completion is not necessarily going to be the actual first completion)
but i guess it will be normal to privately add a trick instead of recording if it requires very little effort.
